# Sheringham Issues United Title Warning

Teddy Sheringham believes that Manchester United need something *“extra special”* if they are to challenge Chelsea for the Premier League title next season.

In an interview with *Sky Sports News HQ*, Sheringham spoke of his former club’s chances of winning a first title since 2013; *“It’s going to be really tough for Man United to win it. When clubs finish so far off the championship winners it’s very difficult in the next season.*

*“It’s kind of like stepping stones unless they go out and bring in five or six new players which would be a big transition for the club.*

*“They’ll have to be extra special to beat Chelsea or Manchester City next year, obviously that’s the aim. I don’t think it’s as easy as said than done.”*

Sheringham, who has recently been installed as Stevenage manager, also believes that David De Gea is highly unlikely to remain at Old Trafford next season*. “Probably not when there has been so much speculation over the summer period”,* he said when asked about the Spaniard’s uncertain future,

*“There’s even more talk about it and he only has a year left. I would presume that will go ahead for him at some stage to go to Real Madrid.”*

Teddy Sheringham played 145 times during a four-year spell at United, following a £3.5 million move from Tottenham Hotspur in 1997. He found the net on 47 occasions, most famously scoring the dramatic equaliser in the 1999 Champions League final.
