Robin van Persie: Top 5 Goals

Robin van Persie: Top 5 Goals

Robin van Persie scored so many wonderful goals, some of which were an honour to watch, that it was difficult to narrow it down to just five. Therefore there a few notable omissions such as his dramatic winner in the Manchester derby, at the Etihad, which was a memorable moment but van Persie has hit a few sweeter strikes. Here are his top five efforts in a United shirt.

5. vs. Swansea City (August 2013)

This remarkable bicycle kick showed what superb technique Robin van Persie possesses, and he managed the effort despite being surrounded by defenders and having to bring down a looping high ball. It started the David Moyes era in spectacular fashion.

4. vs. West Bromwich Albion (December 2012)

The way van Persie created space and curled his shot into the far corner was the performance of a striker at the very peak of his powers. Perhaps not his most outrageous effort, the first touch and bending shot made it one of his most sublime.

3. Fulham (August 2012)

Not a bad way to introduce yourself to your new supporters! This first time effort from Patrice Evra’s ball across the box gets better with every viewing. The finish, with such limited time and space available, was quite brilliant.

2. West Ham United (January 2013)

Dutch players are famed for possessing a terrific technique, being the architects of total football. On the evidence of Robin van Persie’s last gasp equaliser, he is worthy of a place among the very best Dutch footballers of all time. A special mention is reserved for Ryan Giggs’ brilliant cross-field pass. Van Persie’s first touch is simply wonderful, there have been few better displays of technique, and the finish was calmness personified. Pure class.

1. Aston Villa (April 2013)

This incredible goal was one of those moments you will never forget, you remember where you were watching it. The 2012/13 season was the year of Robin van Persie and this volley was his defining masterpiece. Again credit must go to the assist, this one was courtesy of Wayne Rooney, but what happened following his raking pass was something out of the ordinary. What a way to seal a 20th league title, this goal was a privilege to witness and deservedly goes down as one of the club’s greatest ever finishes.
