Two sides that are closely-connected via transferring a series of players back and forth along with the Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit being one that several Reds’ greats hold close to their hearts. These include Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs to name a couple.

A club that sits in the seventh tier of the English system, they certainly put up a fight as they clawed back a 3-0 deficit after a team talk at the break. On only the eight minute, the referee pointed to the spot following a rash challenge in the area that saw him unfairly bring Ashley Fletcher to ground; the striker doing the honours in a confident manner himself.

Not too long after the half-hour mark, 20-year-old, James Weir, strengthened the Red Devils’ position and wrote himself onto the score-sheet. Five minutes following the restart, Josh Harrop turned the tide further in United’s favour, leaving the Ammies with a mountain to climb, their counterparts flying out of the blocks.

Despite labelled as a friendly fixture, City fought back in competitive spirit as Warren Joyce’s side sat back and allowed Danny Webber to haunt his ex-employers with a goal of his own, Matt Chadwick following suit. Now on thin ice, Sam Madeley was ever the opportunist as he hit the visitors where it hurt and symbolised the stalemate with merely minutes remaining on the clock.

The Under-21’s gaffer will be hoping his Lancashire-based setup can replicate their first half display but maintain the healthy lead they had established throughout the next 45 minutes in an upcoming semi-final affair of their own.
