# Van Gaal Hoping Di Maria Will Stay

**Louis van Gaal wants Angel Di Maria to stay at Manchester United but will let him leave if that is the wish of the Argentine international, according to reports in the *Guardian*.**

The 27-year-old has been linked with a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer following a difficult first season in England both on and off the field.

Although van Gaal will allow him to leave, the manager will not keep hold of a player who is unhappy, he is hopeful of being able to persuade Di Maria to remain in Manchester and prove his worth.

Di Maria arrived at the club last summer for a British record fee of £59.7 million and the former Real Madrid man started life at United brightly, who can forget his sumptuous lob against Leicester City, but faded as the campaign wore on. Injuries hampered his form and caused him to lose his place to Ashley Young in the starting eleven toward the end of the season. An attempted burglary of his house, has unsettled his family, causing his wife to desire a move away.

All of this will be factored in to van Gaal’s decision of whether to retain the services of Di Maria or to allow to him move on. United’s apparent interest in PSG striker Edinson Cavani, could play a crucial role in deciding the future of Angel Di Maria. Cavani is known to be unhappy in Paris and a swap-plus-cash deal is a possibility.

Di Maria, along with Marcos Rojo and Javier Hernandez, is scheduled to join the squad’s pre-season tour of the United States on 25th July. With nine days still to go until then, we may well see further developments in Di Maria’s Manchester United future.
