# De Gea Won’t Be Madrid’s Number 1

In a move that appears to confirm that De Gea will not be sold this summer, Keylor Navas has been awarded the No. 1 shirt by Real Madrid.

The United shot stopper has long been linked with a move to the Spanish club, however with Navas being handed the No.1 shirt  vacated by the departing Iker Casillas and newcomer Kiko Casillas likely to challenge for game time, it would appear De Gea is staying in Manchester.

The Spaniard is entering his final year under contract at United and with negotiations between United and the player apparently stalled; De Gea could begin negotiations to leave on a free transfer as early as January.

According to Rob Dawson of *Manchester Evening News*, Manchester United have grown tired of Real Madrid’s attitude that they should be allowed to sign David De Gea in a cut price deal. Instead United are willing to keep him for another season, even if it does mean that they don’t get recieve any money for the Spaniard. It is believed that the only move that would cause United to let De Gea leave this season is if Sergio Ramos were allowed to move the other way.

De Gea has played a key role since he arrived from Atletico in 2011. The Spanish international has been praised highly for his achievements, picking up the Manchester United Player Of The Year Award twice in consecutive seasons. David did however sit out the teams first pre-season game against Club America with a minor injury, which van Gaal said he did not want to risk, just as with Antonio Valencia.
