# Barcelona Hoping Pedro Will Stay

Barcelona’s new technical secretary Robert Fernandez gave an update on one of Manchester United’s prime targets during his unveiling today.

[According to Catalan newspaper Sport](https://www.sport-english.com/en/news/barca/robert-fernandez-believe-that-pedro-and-adriano-will-stay-4414429), Fernandez was optimistic that Pedro would be staying at the Nou Camp beyond this summer*. “I spoke with them \[Pedro and Adriano\] in San Francisco, and I have the same feeling now as I did then. I believe that they are going to stay.”*

Fernandez, however confirmed Pedro’s release clause, a sign that Barcelona are willing to let the 28-year old move to Old Trafford. *“He has a clause of 30 million euros. We are waiting to see if any team will decide to pay it. But we don’t want him to go. If he goes, Barça lose a player who is capable of offering things both on and off the pitch. And this is very difficult,”* he said.

Pedro has not publicly commented on his future, but there have been signs that a move is forthcoming. [According to the president of Pedro’s former club](https://www.sport-english.com/en/news/barca/pedros-mother-told-heading-england-says-jaime-lorenzo-4403607), the player’s mother has said that her son would be moving to England soon, while [noted Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague said on Twitter](https://twitter.com/GuillemBalague/status/629230717210378240) that personal terms had been agreed between Pedro and United, although no official bid has been made.

This saga will be advancing in the next couple of days, with Angel Di Maria’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain having been finalised today. Louis van Gaal sees Pedro as the perfect replacement for the Argentine, and if this move does become a reality, Pedro would be a fine addition for the Reds.
