# Manchester United vs Club Brugge – Team News

Phil Jones remains the only absentee for Louis van Gaal ahead of Manchester United’s play-off first leg against Club Brugge at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

The defender remains on the sidelines with mild thrombosis but is recovering well according to the manager. “No injuries. Only Phil Jones, but that’s not an injury, it’s more an illness, but it’s getting better, and we’re very happy for him,” van Gaal said on MUTV.

The Dutchman also confirmed that Marouane Fellaini could be in line for his first appearance of the season against the Belgian side, with the midfielder been suspended for the first three games of the Premier League season after being sent off against Hull City in the final game last season.

van Gaal also refused to answer any questions about the chances of David de Gea’s involvement in the pre-match press conference, saying: “That question is not a good question. I don’t answer that question. I have already said two weeks ago what my view is.”

Other questions raised at the press conference included the pressure on United heading into the tie. “There’s a lot of pressure because our aim and goal is to reach the Champions League, and that is what Arsene Wenger already mentioned last year. These kind of matches are difficult. Because of the draw, I think it is much more difficult because we’ve drawn Brugge. Their trainer coach can defend very well,” van Gaal said.

He added: “It is a difficult match and that is why the pressure is high. All the players and all the fans and the board of the club wants to participate in the Champions League, but first we have to beat Club Brugge.”

The manager also spoke about Club Brugge midfielder Victor Vázquez, who was in Barcelona’s youth ranks when van Gaal was manager at the club. “I think he is very good, he is one of the key players. He’s not only fast, but he has very good vision. I liked him when I analysed him. It’s not only Vazquez who is a good player, though,” van Gaal remarked
