Manchester United have on Tuesday afternoon confirmed the signing of 19-year-old French striker Anthony Martial on a five-year deal from AS Monaco.
Martial, bought for £32 million plus potential add-ons has been likened to Thierry Henry by Morgan Schneiderlin and is now the second most expensive French player of all time; behind only Zinedine Zidane, who joined Real Madrid during their ‘Galactico’ era, playing with the likes of David Beckham and Luis Figo.
The signing of Martial was United’s only piece of transfer deadline day business and comes as United have scored just 3 goals in 4 Premier League games so far this season. We’ve taken a look at the youngster’s top 5 career goals so far…
5) vs SC Bastia
Anthony may not score with his initial shot here but he does do well to make space for himself leading up to it; he then stays alive in the box to slot home with a cool volley when the ball gets whipped back in; a composed finish.
4) vs Stade Reims
It’s incredible how easy he makes this look. His delicate lob is perfectly weighted and seems absolutely effortless.
3) vs SM Caen
Again Martial shows how well he can find space as he strolls into a large opening in the box. The ball into his is inch perfect but the finish is just as good – he opens his body up perfectly and couldn’t have made it any more difficult for the goalkeeper, who was never going to reach a strike hit with such cool precision.
2) vs Evian
Well, he really does look a good buy. This time up against Evian, he shows that he can operate in tight spaces too, dancing past his marker before hitting a thumping drive into the roof of the net, leaving the keeper helpless with the power of the strike.
1) vs Saint Etienne
You may already have seen this goal doing the rounds since the news emerged that United were to sign Anthony Martial. For those who haven’t I won’t spoil it – just watch. What a hit.
