# De Gea set for return against Liverpool

The [Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/david-de-gea-set-to-return-to-manchester-united-starting-lineup-for-liverpool-game-after-talks-with-louis-van-gaal-10492518.html) are reporting that goalkeeper David De Gea is set to return to the Manchester United starting line-up when they clash with Liverpool this weekend.

The Spaniard kept a clean sheet last night for Spain as they won their UEFA European Championship qualifying group game against Macedonia.

He has not played a competitive match for Manchester United this season following a long drawn out transfer saga that ended with his prospective move to Real Madrid breaking down in the dying embers of the Spanish transfer deadline.

Louis van Gaal is poised to hold talks with the goalkeeper this week over his readiness to play and what the future holds for the shot-stopper following his failed attempt at a move to Madrid.

De Gea was branded as not being mentally ready to play by manager Louis van Gaal, however, now that there is no way he can leave until at least January, van Gaal will hope his goalkeeper will be able to sort his mind out and play for Manchester United.

Sergio Romero has played all of United’s games so far this season, keeping three clean sheets in four Premier League matches. However, there are still concerns from many United fans that he is not good enough to be there consistent number one and they want De Gea to return.

De Gea could potentially get an unfriendly welcome if he were to play Saturday, but he will have to take it on the chin and play at his optimum best for United until he potentially leaves for Madrid in January, or the other option, which is to see out his contract until next summer and leave on a free transfer.
