# Manchester United vs Liverpool – Team News

There were no surprises from Louis van Gaal in his pre-match press conference today, as Manchester United gear up for a massive game against Liverpool after the international break. Here’s the team news:

After the fantastic news of David de Gea signing a new four-year contract today, there was more good news in the pipeline, with the manager reporting that Michael Carrick would be fit to play tomorrow, after the 34-year old midfielder withdrew from international duty with England on Monday with a slight calf strain.

The only absentees for United tomorrow will be Andreas Pereira, who returned from international duty with the Brazil Olympic squad injured, and Phil Jones, who continues his slow recovery from “mild” thrombosis.

£36 million man Anthony Martial will also be hoping to make his debut for the Reds tomorrow, as the deadline day signing from Monaco looks to start with a bang at Old Trafford following his international debut for France during the break.

Marcos Rojo may also be in contention for a place in the starting line-up, having started for Argentina in their 2-2 draw against Mexico on Tuesday, although it remains to be seen whether van Gaal is certain that the centre-back is up to match fitness.

de Gea will be hoping to make his return to the Reds’ starting eleven tomorrow, with the summer-long transfer saga with Real Madrid behind him. When asked if de Gea would be starting between the sticks against Liverpool, van Gaal was coy. “You shall see – you never know. His head is empty now and that is important. He can focus but we have to judge him in training,” the Dutchman said.

**Predicted XI:**

de Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata, Herrera, Memphis, Rooney.
