# Gallery: Man Utd 3-1 Liverpool

Manchester United and Liverpool got straight into the thick of Premier League action, facing each other in arguably one of the biggest games of the season immediately after the international break – and it was a brilliant afternoon for the Red Devils.

With captain Wayne Rooney out of the game through a hamstring injury, United started with Marouane Fellaini as a lone striker – he didn’t score but his bullying presence was a source of discomfort for Liverpool.

The breakthrough came in the second half when Daley Blind finished off a perfect free-kick routine with a sublime finish. The second goal came after Joe Gomez fouled Ander Herrera in the box – and the Basque midfielder scored the penalty with aplomb.

Benteke scored an absolutely spectacular effort but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback for the visitors – thanks to Anthony Martial. The Frenchman scored a goal that Thierry Henry would have been proud of to put the game to bed on his debut.
