# van Gaal: “Struggling” Memphis Needs Time

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that Memphis Depay is having difficulties adapting his game to the Premier League, reports [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/9991973/louis-van-gaal-admits-memphis-depay-struggling-to-adapt-to-english-football).

Though the winger netted twice against Bruges in a Champions League qualifier, Depay has yet to score a league goal for the Red Devils.

Former Netherlands manager van Gaal attributes Depay’s underwhelming performances to the unfamiliarity of the Premier League’s “high rhythm”.

However, though “struggling” to score Depay has recorded an average 3.4 shots per league appearance. By contrast, star striker Wayne Rooney has managed only 2 per game and fellow winger Ashley Young has attempted only 1 in each of his league outings.

These statistics suggest that it may not be long before Depay is able to replicate the form which produced 22 goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances and earned the young Dutchman move to Old Trafford.

In the meantime, Louis van Gaal has called for patience from both himself and the fans, though confessing that as a manager he is “never satisfied”.
