# The truth behind Pogba leaving Old Trafford

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed the reason Paul Pogba left Manchester United in 2012 to join Juventus on a free transfer.

In his new book, *Leading*, Sir Alex has revealed why the youngster left Old Trafford.

“There are one or two football agents I simply do not like. And Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba’s agent, is one of them. I distrusted him from the moment I met him. He became Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent while he was playing for Ajax, and eventually he would end up representing Pogba, who was only 18-years-old at the time.”

Pogba was signed on an initial 3-year deal from the Le Harve youth academy in 2009 and had to wait 2 years before his first involvement with the first team. Following his lack of first team football, the youngster rejected a contract extension with United.

“We had Paul under a three-year contract, and it had a one-year renewal option which we were eager to sign. But Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco. He and I were like oil and water.”

“From then on, our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to ingratiate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed with Juventus.”

Since joining Juventus, Pogba has won 3 Serie A titles, 1 Coppa Italia and reached last year’s Champions League Final. The 22 year-old was also crowned the ‘Best Young Player’ at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The player has been valued at £70 Million by his club Juventus to deter interest from European rivals.
