# United linked with Porto defender

Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi could make a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window, according to the [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-transfer-news-van-10226666).

United manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly looking to replace Marcos Rojo, having allegedly fallen out with the Argentinian defender, and Martins Indi has been identified as the perfect replacement for the 25-year old.

Left-footed and being able to play at centre-back and left-back, the 23-year old Dutch international has been watched multiple times by United scouts this season and any move to Old Trafford would reunite Martins Indi with the man who gave him his international debut.

Rojo, meanwhile, has only played twice this season after a turbulent summer where he reportedly angered van Gaal to the point that the Dutchman considered selling him in the last transfer window.

The 25-year old failed to link up with United on their pre-season tour of the United States after playing for Argentina in the Copa America due to ‘passport issues’, and wasn’t considered for selection until the win over Liverpool in early September.

And Rojo has only started one game for the Reds – playing 69 minutes in the victory over Southampton until picking up a hamstring injury. He hasn’t played since that game, although United hope that the Argentinian will be back for the clash against Everton next Saturday.

Even if Rojo does come back, he faces some tough competition for a first-team place, with Daley Blind in good form at centre-back and Phil Jones having recovered from injury. Ashley Young’s versatility at left-back may also keep Rojo out of back four.

However, would Martins Indi be a better fit for United? I don’t think so. Rojo was certainly one of United’s best defenders when he was in the side last season, and Martins Indi can certainly be rash in the tackle and shaky on the ball at best.

Porto would also demand big money for Martins Indi and try to milk as much as they can out of United, so the Reds would be better off keeping Rojo.
