Rojo: van Gaal has always supported me

Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo has rubbished reports that he had a fall-out with Louis van Gaal earlier in the season by insisting he has always had the support of the Dutchman, as per the Manchester Evening News.

There was speculation last summer that Rojo was set for a move to AS Monaco, after falling out with the manager. The Argentine stayed at Old Trafford but didn’t make an appearance until the 3-2 win at Southampton on September 20.

Epsilon/Getty Images SportThe apparent ‘rift’ between van Gaal and Rojo started after the defender failed to meet up with the rest of the squad for the final leg of the pre-season because of ‘passport issues’.

But after winning his spot back in the starting eleven, primarily due to Luke Shaw’s major injury, Rojo was praised by both van Gaal and captain Wayne Rooney after a strong display in United’s 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow last month.

Speaking to the club’s website: “They’ve supported me a lot and I’m grateful to them for that.

“The manager and captain are always with me and they know the type of player and person that I am, so I thank them because they made a great gesture towards me.”
