Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has given a positive update on Luke Shaw as the left-back recovers from a broken leg.
The 20-year old has been on a recovery programme since suffering the injury against PSV Eindhoven in September, and has been working hard at the gym and the swimming pool at Carrington as he aims to make a first-team return in 2016.

The Dutchman wrote in his United Review column on Tuesday night:
I would like to give you an update on Luke Shaw as his recovery is something I am asked about by a lot by fans.
Luke is progressing well and is doing as well as we could have hoped at this stage. We are not putting any timings on his recovery or a return, as it is important that we allow nature to take its course.
Luke is working hard during his recuperation to keep his body in the best possible condition. He is receiving plenty of messages of encouragement from supporters, which I know that he appreciates.
Shaw’s recovery is clearly on the right track, as he was seen walking without crutches as he joined his team-mates at United’s annual Christmas party on Wednesday night, and the England international also remarked on his progress on Twitter:
Tough bike session today, still early days but I’m working hard on my recovery!! pic.twitter.com/9Tss5YDDEm

Every United fan in the world will be pleased with the progress Shaw is making, but it is still early days and hopefully he’ll make a full recovery and be back on the pitch soon.
