# van Gaal provides update on Shaw recovery

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has given a positive update on Luke Shaw as the left-back recovers from a broken leg.

The 20-year old has been on a recovery programme since suffering the injury against PSV Eindhoven in September, and has been working hard at the gym and the swimming pool at Carrington as he aims to make a first-team return in 2016.

The Dutchman wrote in his [United Review](https://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Nov/luke-shaw-recovering-well-from-broken-leg.aspx?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd#) column on Tuesday night:

> *I would like to give you an update on Luke Shaw as his recovery is something I am asked about by a lot by fans.*
>
> *Luke is progressing well and is doing as well as we could have hoped at this stage. We are not putting any timings on his recovery or a return, as it is important that we allow nature to take its course.*
>
> *Luke is working hard during his recuperation to keep his body in the best possible condition. He is receiving plenty of messages of encouragement from supporters, which I know that he appreciates.*

Shaw’s recovery is clearly on the right track, as he was seen walking without crutches as he joined his team-mates at United’s annual Christmas party on Wednesday night, and the England international also remarked on his progress on Twitter:

Every United fan in the world will be pleased with the progress Shaw is making, but it is still early days and hopefully he’ll make a full recovery and be back on the pitch soon.
