# Serbian goalkeeper leaves Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has signed for Polish club Lechia Gdansk.

Having signed for United last season for a sum of £1.3 million from Serbian side Vojvodina, the U20 World Cup winner was allowed to stay in Serbia on loan for another season where he made 19 appearances.

However, his loan expired in June 2015, and the shot-stopper has been training alone in Belgrade ever since, after failing to get an English work permit.

The goalkeeper told the [club’s official website](https://www.lechia.pl/news,7176-vanja-milinkovic-savic-nowym-bramkarzem-lechii-gdansk.html):

> *I had to go back to Manchester, but there is a problem with a work permit in England.*
>
> *The case dragged on, unfortunately. I couldn’t find a club where I could be loaned, several days ago I decided to terminate the contract with the English club and look for another employer.*
>
> *I am glad that I was able to quickly come to an agreement with Lechia.*

Although Milinkovic-Savic was born in Spain, he isn’t eligible to play for his birth country, as neither of his parents are Spanish, so he currently plays in the Serbian national youth team, and has 12 caps in total for the U17s, U19s and U20s.
