# Schweinsteiger facing three-match ban

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger may be facing a three-match ban after a clash with Winston Reid during the Reds’ 0-0 draw with West Ham on Saturday, according to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-midfielder-bastian-schweinsteiger-6965879).

The German seemed to elbow Hammers defender Reid in the face as United were about to take a free-kick in the first-half and retrospective action may be taken after Mark Clattenburg and his assistants took no action over the incident.

Reid and West Ham boss Slaven Bilic both accused Schweinsteiger of deliberately elbowing the defender in the face after the match. The New Zealander said:

> *It was a red card. He knows what he’s done – he’s elbowed me in the face. The referee couldn’t see it, so we move on.*

Bilic added:

> *It is a red card, but I can agree that he didn’t see it. No matter how many referees you have, sometimes they can’t see.*
>
> *I’m sure if he did see it, it would have been a straight red. Of course, we are disappointed but it happens. He just didn’t see it.*
>
> *I saw it on the replays at half-time. It was a red, a big-time red. I understand the decision, but it was a crucial moment. I can’t blame the referee.*

Clattenburg will be contacted by the FA to make sure that he didn’t see the incident before a three-man panel of referees examine the video evidence if retrospective action is taken. If he is given a ban, Schweinsteiger will miss United’s games against Bournemouth, Norwich and Stoke on Boxing Day.

However, Marouane Fellaini will escape retrospective action for his tackle on James Tomkins. The Belgian stamped on the defender during his followthrough and he was given a talking to by Clattenburg on the pitch.
