# Post-Match Comments: Manchester United 1-2 Norwich City

The pressure continues to mount on Louis van Gaal after the Reds fell to their third consecutive defeat against Norwich City today at Old Trafford.

It was a deserved victory for the Canaries, who were clinical in front of goal. Cameron Jerome opened the scoring after some terrible defending from United on the counter and Alexander Tettey put Norwich two up in the second half after another counter.

Anthony Martial pulled one back for United, sparking hopes of a revival, but the Reds failed to create enough chances in the final stages and were unable to find the equaliser. Van Gaal was booed off the pitch by United supporters after the final whistle and it felt like the nadir of the Dutchman’s reign at Old Trafford.

So, what did van Gaal have to say in his post-match interview?

> *We know we have to win against Norwich City. We have won most of our games at home, so this is special for us this season and we know that it is not good enough for us. The players know that, I know that, the board know that and the fans know that.*
>
> *Still, after the second goal, the fans were supporting us and they gave a good example that you have to stick together to come out of this period because that is the main objective now.*

> *That’s always happening, these questions \[about the philosophy\], when it is going down, but also in the past when it is going down you have to believe in that philosophy and that’s also why all my teams have won more matches than they lose.*
>
> *I’m convinced that we will come back from this period, but we will have to work very hard because it is not easy. You can see what confidence is doing to my players.*

**UPDATE:** Here are some quotes from van Gaal’s post-match press conference:

> *In 25 years of management, I evaluate myself and part of the philosophy is making an evolution. I’m not the same coach I was 25 years ago because I am – or was – a very successful manager.*
>
> *Belief in a manager is important, and when you lose that belief decreases. That’s happening now. I can’t close my eyes to that.*
>
> *I don’t think a change in manager now will change things.*
