# United battle Premier League sides for Senegalese striker

Manchester United are set to battle a number of Premier League sides for the signature of Lokomotiv Moscow striker Oumar Niasse, according to [the Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/04/lokomotiv-moscow-oumar-niasse-premier-league).

The Senegalese striker has been in hot form for the Russian side, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions this season. His play has helped Lokomotiv to third in the Russian Premier League, five points behind leaders CSKA Moscow.

Niasse’s form has also guided Lokomotiv to the knockout stages in the Europa League, advancing in a group containing both Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas.

However, Lokomotiv’s owners Russian Railways are facing budget cuts and as a result, they are being forced to sell some of their prized assets in the January transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen and Monaco have reportedly had bids rejected already and Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all scouted the 25-year-old frontman and £15 million will reportedly be enough to prize Niasse away from Moscow.

However, United may have the edge over their fellow Premier League clubs, given that his wife is based in Manchester professionally.

Niasse may be the solution to United’s striking woes – the striker is extremely proficient in holding up the ball to bring others into play and his pace and fitness have been crucial to Lokomotiv’s recent success.

His work-rate has also been noted and his form has seen him make a return to the Senegal national side, for whom he has been capped five times.

Niasse would also add depth for United’s attacking options, which can be described as threadbare at the moment. Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are the Reds’ only senior strikers at the moment. Will Keane has also been recalled from a loan with Championship side Preston, although you would think that he isn’t in first-team contention.
