# Januzaj recalled from Dortmund loan

Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj has been recalled from his season-long loan at Borussia Dortmund.

[The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/article4658424.ece) reports that the Reds have asked the Bundesliga side to cut short the Belgian winger’s spell due to a lack of playing time and Dortmund have accepted the request.

The paperwork regarding Januzaj’s recall is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours and the 20-year-old will be returning to Old Trafford this week. A formal announcement is expected tomorrow.

It marks the end of a torrid situation for Januzaj, who had not started a single Bundesliga game for Thomas Tuchel’s side since arriving at the Signal Iduna Park on August 31 last year.

In fact, the Belgian made only 12 appearances for BVB during a four-month spell, with his only starts coming in the Europa League. It has been a stunning fall from grace for the youngster who was one of the shining lights during David Moyes’ tumultuous season at Old Trafford.

Januzaj’s recall will add more depth to the United attack, which has been struggling for most of this season and will be music to the ears of Reds fans.

However, Januzaj will have to work his way into Louis van Gaal’s plans, given that the Dutchman hasn’t always thought highly of the Belgian’s work ethic.

The United manager did not initially have any plans to recall Januzaj in this transfer window, but his hand was forced by the lack of playing time the 20-year-old would probably receive in the second half of the season.

Back in November, he said this about Januzaj:

> *At a club like Borussia Dortmund, all the players are also of a certain level.*

> *I said in advance that is a big risk because you have to compete with other players of a higher level and that is not so easy.*

> *It is the same as at Manchester United. He \[Januzaj\] has to compete with higher-level players. I want him to play all the matches and that is why I wanted to play him in the Premier League, but he chose Borussia Dortmund.*
