# United lining up £90 million summer bid for Bale

Manchester United are prepared to pay £90 million in the summer to bring Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale to Old Trafford, according to [The Times](https://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/sport/football/Premiership/article1654849.ece).

The Reds were rumoured to have made an offer of a similar amount last summer but were snubbed by Real president Florentino Perez.

However, the sacking of Rafa Benitez and the appointment of Zinedine Zidane has changed the situation at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Bale said to be unhappy with the decision to part ways with the former Liverpool manager.

The Welshman is said to have texted Perez hoping that the rumours of Benitez getting the sack were untrue, prior to them being confirmed days later. Bale also reportedly texted Benitez after he was sacked, saying that he enjoyed his training sessions and felt that they had improved him as a player.

Despite enjoying the challenges that Spanish football has brought to him, there have been suggestions that the 26-year-old has had a more difficult time adapting to life outside the football pitch.

His Spanish is still at a moderate level two and a half years after arriving in Spain, while Cristiano Ronaldo feels that Bale should be mixing more socially with the squad, although the rivalry between the two men is overblown by the media.

Bale is also looking for a long-term family base with his daughter turning four soon, so a return to Britain and the Premier League may prove to be enticing for the winger.

However, the Welshman insisted that he is still happy in Madrid. Speaking after he scored a hat-trick in Real’s comprehensive victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend, he [said](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11835/10125950/gareth-bale-says-he-is-enjoying-his-football-at-real-madrid-despite-rafael-benitez-exit):

> *I don’t feel I need to make a statement to anyone. I know what I’m capable of and I just want to keep enjoying my football and when I do that I play my best.*
>
> *I’m happy at the moment. Obviously, you can never predict what happens in the future, but I’m enjoying my football at the moment so I’ll keep going.*
>
> *I had a very good relationship with Rafa. Obviously, it was a big disappointment to see him go. But things like this happen in football, you’re professional and you get on with it and carry on.*

Zidane also spoke about Bale at his first press conference as Real manager, saying that he would understand if the winger was unhappy about Benitez’s exit:

> *He’s a phenomenal player. I’m going to give him all the support and love he needs to play well.*
>
> *I understand he might be sad about Rafa’s sacking because he was an important coach to him, but I will treat him just as well as Rafael did.*
