Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has today announced his retirement from football at the age of 34, after parting ways with Inter Milan earlier in January by mutual consent.
The former United captain had been linked with a move to Major League Soccer after leaving the San Siro but has decided to call it a day. In a statement published on the official Manchester United website, he said:
The time has come for me to hang up my boots. The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll.
I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big ‘thank you’ to the fans for their support over the years.
In his eight years at Old Trafford, Vidic won 15 trophies and played 300 times for the Red Devils (an average of one trophy every twenty games), forming a fearsome partnership with Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence and became a bonafide United legend, with his warrior-like determination endearing him to the Stretford End.
As we pay tribute to Vidic, we take a look back at his time with United, season by season.
