# United to make late Debuchy swoop

Manchester United are in need of defensive reinforcements in their push for a Champions League spot in 2016/17; and it’d be quite a shock move if it comes off.

Louis van Gaal is without Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia for the foreseeable future – so he wants to bring in Mathieu Debuchy from Arsenal, according to Kieran Gill of the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3426322/Manchester-United-eyeing-shock-loan-Arsenal-defender-Mathieu-Debuchy.html)

The Frenchman is second choice to young Spaniard Hector Bellerin for Arsenal’s right-back spot and will be wanting more playing time in the hope of making France’s European Championship this summer.

With Ashley Young also out for at least a month and Darmian out injured at the moment, United are left with Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson as their available full-backs – so Debuchy coming in as at least some cover could be a good idea.

The Mail claim that Wenger is happy to let the French defender leave on a short-term loan.
