# Manager Profile: Ernest Mangnall’s top 5 moments

Manchester United is a club with a great history of success which stretches back to the very beginning of the 20th century.

The many triumphs of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign remain fresh in the mind for United fans, and the incredible story of Sir Matt Busby’s Babes in 1950’s and 60’s are often retold. However, the club’s older successes in the early 1900’s are not talked about with such frequency.

Ferguson and Busby are the two most successful managers in the club’s history, winning 37 and 11 trophies respectively. But not far behind with 5 trophies in just nine years as manager is Ernest Mangnall – the man responsible for winning United’s first ever League title, Charity Shield and FA Cup.

The English manager was only United’s third in the club’s history, with the current boss Louis van Gaal only the 22nd in a 138 year history.

Let’s take a look at Mangall’s top five moments as the Reds’ boss.
