Having been a consistently outstanding performer between the sticks amidst an ever average Manchester United side, it is looking increasingly likely that David de Gea will end up at least the interest of Spanish giants Real Madrid come summer time.
The established Spanish stopper looked for all the world like he would sign the previous summer, but a last minute paperwork gaffe saw him sign a new contract instead. Real are bound to come calling again, and United – thanks to the new contract – have the ability to scrap out a deal for big money to then spend on De Gea’s replacement.
An array of talent is available to step up should they want, and United are not short of money or ambition to offer them. Following in the footsteps of van der Sar, Schmeichel, and Stepney has to be a dream for many, and United may be in a position to offer that in the summer, assuming De Gea does depart.
