Since arriving at Old Trafford from Wigan Athletic, Antonio Valencia has very much stayed under the radar of the United glamour show. In a similar manner to players such as Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra, he lets his hard work do the talking without making all the headlines; providing a consistent show of pace, energy and brutal tackling as a winger and as a full back.
When he arrived at Wigan, the then 21-year-old immediately impressed for the Latics, alongside an array of talent like Wilson Palacios, and Leighton Baines. Though Wigan did not hit the heights that their initial Premier League form seemed to suggest, Valencia was the name everyone was watching out for and in the summer of 2009, United came calling.
The £16 million signing has since stepped up his game and proved himself. He has had plenty of reasons to cheer through his seven years of service whilst wearing the Red shirt, so we’ve picked out five of them.
