# Loan Watch: Powell out for rest of season

Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell, who is currently out on loan at Championship front-runners Hull City, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

According to the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/659328/Nick-Powell-Man-United-future-in-doubt-ruled-out-for-the-season-news-gossip), the 22-year-old pulled up with a thigh injury during training on Tuesday, just as he was about to make a return from a torn hamstring.

Hull boss Steve Bruce confirmed the injury news, saying that he did not expect Powell to return before the end of the season:

> *Nick re-injured himself on Tuesday when he was just stepping up his training with us for a second day.*
>
> *Unfortunately, he pulled a thigh. I don’t think we’ll see him again before the end of the season.*
>
> *Normally you’re looking at three or four weeks for an injury like this.*

Although Hull’s chances of making the Championship play-offs places are extremely high, the ex-United man felt that Powell would not be fit for selection come the end of the season. Powell has only made a total of five appearances for the Tigers during his loan spell at the KC Stadium.

Bruce said:

> *We might be able to see him again and I wouldn’t rule him out totally but it’s going to be difficult given the way he went over.*
>
> *He just pulled up and when you do that, it’s usually three or four weeks I would have thought.*

This could mark the end of a torrid season for Powell, who made two appearances for United before being shipped out on loan by Louis van Gaal. The former England under-21 international’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and is expected to leave.
