# Mourinho faces big choice as PSG come calling

Ever since he was sacked by Chelsea at the tail end of 2015, and the gradual derailment of Manchester United’s Premier League and Champions League challenges under Louis van Gaal, it has been a case of when, rather than if, Jose Mourinho will sit down in the Old Trafford hot seat and begin his attempt at reestablishing the ailing Reds.

Now though, he has a decision on his hands. Despite Paris St-Germain winning the Ligue 1 title for a fourth consecutive time in a league blighted by inconsistencies among other team’s results, and their European charge falling to Manchester City, the security of Laurent Blanc as team manager looks increasingly precarious.

The manner in which they exited at the hands of the Citizens showed their obvious failure to cut it amongst European elite, over two legs in which they were twice pegged back at home, and nullified in attack during the return leg in Manchester.

A proven winner whose credentials speak for himself, Mourinho is the man PSG believe can take them that one step further.

The philosophy of PSG sides with the one Mourinho appears to favour – large transfer funds, wholly realistic trophy challenges, plus an elite unit of big player names at his disposal. They are the kind of team Mourinho has managed before, and would love to do so again. The passion of their fans is one he relishes

Naturally, United fans have been [utterly up in arms](https://twitter.com/Coral/status/722381492064661504) at the prospect of their long coveted successor to the throne suddenly turning them down and moving to the French capital. But it may not be that clear cut. Mourinho has demonstrated his clear lack of desire to work alongside ego’s – certainly in his final months at Chelsea – and has [indicated he wishes](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3433659/Jose-Mourinho-closing-Manchester-United-deal-former-Chelsea-boss-expected-job-summer.html) to remain in England, Furthermore, should he get the United job, he would resume a highly heated rivalry with former La Liga competitor and imminent Manchester City incumbent Pep Guardiola.

United clearly see Mourinho as the one man who can go toe to toe with the famed Catalan, and with funds available, an ego to reignite, and 75,000 fans baying for him week in and week out, United may have the edge.

But it would depend on which way Mourinho wishes to go. A highly intelligent manager, he is both coy and defensive about the prospect of where he may be come summertime – with [various interviews](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10158263/jose-mourinho-hints-his-next-job-will-be-in-the-premier-league) indirectly indicating he wishes to be in Manchester.

For the time being, it is all up in the air. But for either van Gaal or Blanc, now is the time to be looking over their shoulder. Jose is waiting.
