# Team News: Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Ander Herrera will return to Manchester United’s squad for their midweek Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard was absent from the Reds’ victory over Aston Villa at the weekend after suffering an injury in the previous match against West Ham.

However, United manager Louis van Gaal suggested the central midfielder is on the verge of a comeback in his [weekly interview with MUTV](https://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/Apr/team-news-for-manchester-united-v-crystal-palace.aspx), whilst providing an update on other senior players:

> *\[We have\] no injury problems, only the players who are injured already for a long time – Schweinsteiger, Shaw and Januzaj. I think Herrera shall come back.*

Herrera’s possible return should be welcome news for Van Gaal after he impressed in midfield alongside Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick in last week’s FA Cup win at West Ham.

That victory confirmed the Reds’ semi-final place in the competition, where they will face Everton on Saturday, and Van Gaal admitted that the prospect of that match may affect his team selection:

> *Of course, but that is the same with every game. You know that you have to play matches and you know also that some players have difficulties with the load of matches. You have to rotate because of that. In the Premier League I have to rotate much more than in another league, and that is also a consequence of the high rhythm of the Premier League.*

Van Gaal also said he expects young forward Marcus Rashford to lead the line once again in Wednesday’s match against the Eagles after the England U20 international scored his seventh goal in 12 matches last time out versus Aston Villa:

> *I changed him after 70 minutes, I believe, and that is also to give him a little bit of rest, the boss continued. He didn’t train the day after and also the day after that he didn’t train. I want to keep him fresh because he is in the momentum of scoring and that is very important for him but also for the team. That is why I don’t rotate him.*

The Dutchman also had a positive update on one of the aforementioned long-term injury absentees, Luke Shaw.

On the left back that started the season so impressively, Van Gaal said:

> *He’s very positive, he’s doing great. He’s training with the physiotherapist but he has to train with the football coach and that hasn’t happened yet.*

The Reds will have to concentrate on the Crystal Palace match first, but if progress can be secured to the FA Cup Final in Saturday’s meeting with Everton at Wembley, Shaw can remain hopeful of a chance of playing again this season.
