Amidst Manchester United’s disappointing season, Daley Blind has largely been one of the bright sparks on the pitch at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman has been an ever-present figure on the pitch for the Reds this season, having played 53 games in all competitions as of writing and surprising most United fans with his solid performances at centre-back alongside Chris Smalling.
After manager Louis van Gaal deployed Blind in the centre of defence in pre-season, all the talk centred on whether the 26-year-old would struggle against the pace and power of elite Premier League, but Blind’s position and reading of the game has more than compensated for his lack of pace and strength.
Blind’s versatility also helps matters and many United fans feel that he can play even better at left-back and in defensive midfield, seen by many as the former Ajax man’s natural position on the pitch.
