# United linked with Swedish defender

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelöf, according to Swedish paper [Aftonbladet](https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/internationell/article22840383.ab).

They report that the Reds scouted the 21-year-old during their trips to the Estadio da Luz this season when they were reportedly close to making a move for Lindelöf’s team-mate Renato Sanches.

However, that move has fallen through with Sanches deciding to make the move to Bayern Munich this summer, but United have now turned their sights to Lindelöf as they look to reinforce at the back.

Aftonbladet says that Louis van Gaal’s side have tabled an offer of about £20 million to the Portuguese champions, with Juventus also reportedly interested in the central defender, who has been named in Sweden’s Euro 2016 squad.

Lindelöf, who has two caps for Sweden, had a rough first-half of the season, mainly serving as a backup to Luisão and Jardel in Lisbon despite winning the UEFA Under-21 Championship with Sweden last summer.

He was on the verge of a loan move to recently promoted Middlesbrough in January, before breaking through into the Benfica first team in January after a spate of injuries at centre-back for the Eagles and has retained his place with a series of good performances.

The 21-year-old can also play at full-back and in defensive midfield as well, so he would a versatile option for United. However, whether the Swede is worth £20 million is highly debatable.
