# Everton favourites to sign Mata

Everton are favourites to sign Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata and are currently in negotiations to bring the Spaniard to Goodison Park, according to French outlet InfoSport+.

One of their journalists, [Flora Moussy](https://twitter.com/FloraMoussy), reported the news on Twitter:

The 28-year-old has been expected to leave United this summer after the arrival of José Mourinho at Old Trafford, with the pair having fallen out when Mata was at Chelsea. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic rumoured to take the number eight shirt, which is currently worn by Mata, it is looking likely that the Spanish international will be looking for a new club.

Rumours had started at the beginning of the weekend when Ibrahimovic’s transfer was confirmed. A clip of the striker asking a United official what his shirt number was and the reply was reportedly eight, if you read Zlatan’s lips in this video:

With Ronald Koeman in charge at the Toffees and British-Iranian billionaire Farhad Moshiri bankrolling the club, it seems that they now have the finances to make big-money signings and Mata could be the man to make a statement to the rest of the Premier League.

If Mata leaves, it would be a sad sight for many United fans as he had become a popular player amongst the Reds fanbase. He has made 104 appearances for the club and scored 26 goals since arriving at Old Trafford in January 2013 and has one trophy to his name with United – the FA Cup victory in May, where he scored the equaliser as the Reds came from behind to beat Crystal Palace.
