# Pereira determined to impress Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is determined to impress new manager José Mourinho and force his way into the first-team picture at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian under-20 international was given 45 minutes by the Portuguese manager in the first pre-season friendly against Wigan yesterday and made the most of his chance, impressing in an unfamiliar deeper midfield role and scoring a powerful strike to round off a comfortable 2-0 victory.

And Pereira’s contribution on the pitch was praised by Mourinho afterwards, who said:

> *Andreas \[Pereira\] has lots of talent. He has incredible vision and an incredible technique.*

The 20-year-old was pleased with his manager’s comments and said that he enjoyed playing in a deeper role between the defence and the front four in an interview with [MUTV](https://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/Jul/andreas-pereira-aiming-to-impress-jose-mourinho-after-scoring-in-man-united-pre-season-win-at-wigan.aspx) after the match:

> *I can play in other positions but I enjoyed that role a lot.*
>
> *I think it was very important for me to get some minutes and show the manager and show the team that I can help them. I am very happy that I could help.*

Pereira also said that he was determined to force his way into Mourinho’s first-team plans, having not been given much game time by Louis van Gaal during the latter half of last season.

Having staked his first-team claims with a great goal against Ipswich Town in the Capital One Cup back in September, the Brazilian only went on to start one other game for the Reds, with his last appearance under the Dutchman being a cameo appearance in United’s Europa League victory over Midtjylland in February.

He said:

> *It’s very important for me.* *I want to show the manager, to show the people around the club, to show the players that I can help this season. It’s very important for me. I want to show this in training and just keep working hard.*
