# Borthwick-Jackson set for Championship loan

Championship side Wolves are set to sign Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on loan, according to reputable Italian journalist [Gianluca Di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/news-cat/wolverhampton-in-arrivo-borthwick-jackson-dal-manchester-united/).

Wolves’ new sporting director Andrea Butti was at Old Trafford to watch United’s 2-0 victory over Southampton last night and it is believed that the Italian’s relationship with José Mourinho has helped facilitate the deal which would see the 19-year-old join Walter Zenga’s side.

Borthwick-Jackson signed a new four-year deal in May after an impressive breakthrough season under Louis van Gaal where he was also named as the club’s Under-21 Player of the Year.

With the return of Luke Shaw after his recovery from a broken leg and the defensive depth available to Mourinho at left-back, a loan move would be the right course of action for both parties, with Borthwick-Jackson able to gain regular first-team football in a competitive league.

It is clear that Mourinho retains his faith in the versatile defender, with the England under-19 international’s contract renewal one of his first acts after officially taking on the role as United manager.

Wolves are currently third in the Championship table, having won two of their first four games. They have also been recently taken over by Chinese investors, which may bode well for their promotion chances this season.
