# Schweinsteiger issues statement on future

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has issued a statement via Twitter on his position within the Old Trafford club and his future within European football.

The World Cup winner has decided that United will be the last European club he plays for, as it is the only club which he’d have left Bayern Munich for, which of course he did in the summer of 2015.

Schweinsteiger is widely seen as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, having dominated many a game with Bayern Munich and Germany, but is yet to have that kind of influence at Old Trafford – and it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll ever get the chance to now.

‘Basti’, as he is affectionately known, was strongly favoured by previous manager Louis van Gaal, who gave him his Bayern debut all those years ago – but is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Nonetheless, it is good to see that Schweinsteiger is still willing to help the team and play for Mourinho if he is eventually called upon.
