The transfer window is nearly over and it looks as though Manchester United will make no more additions to their squad for the 2016-17 season; with the only move on the cards seeming to be their targeting of Southampton man Jose Fonte.
With so little time left in the window, we now have a clearer picture of the shape of United’s squad – Jose Mourinho and Ed Woodward have pulled off some incredible business over the summer and United now have at least some of their old ‘fear factor’ back, with blockbuster names such as Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic having joined the Red Devils.
The first in our new Shape of the Squad series of articles, this one will look at what United’s oldest possible starting eleven is – this will give us an idea of how good the squad is in terms of depth for the future – if ‘younger’ players get in this oldest eleven, we know the squad is in a good place.
So without further ado, here is United’s oldest possible XI – with no players played out of position!
