# Player Ratings: Northampton Town 1-3 Manchester United

Manchester United snapped their three-match losing streak against Northampton Town in the EFL Cup third round, although it was hard work in the end.

The Reds got off to a super start, controlling proceedings and Michael Carrick gave them the early lead with a powerfully controlled strike after Wayne Rooney’s indirect free-kick was deflected into his path.

However, a sloppy period towards the end of the first half saw the League One side come back into the game and they got their rewards after some terrible defending from United saw Daley Blind bring down Sam Hoskins with a challenge in the box. Alex Revell stepped up and dispatched the penalty and United were under a bit of pressure.

But United came out of the second half with added firepower – Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford coming on – and it saw them past the Cobblers. Ander Herrera gave United the lead again with a strike from distance before Rashford sealed the victory after a howler from Northampton keeper Adam Smith.
