# Team News: Stoke City (H)

Phil Jones is the only confirmed absentee for José Mourinho’s Manchester United ahead of their Premier League clash against Stoke City on Sunday, although the Reds boss hopes to have Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan available for selection.

Mourinho told the press in his pre-match press conference that Jones faces several more weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from a knee ligament injury, while Shaw and Mkhitaryan have returned to training after suffering from illness and a groin injury respectively.

The United manager [said](https://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/Sep/team-news-for-manchester-united-v-stoke-city-jose-mourinho-provides-an-update.aspx):

> *Phil Jones is the only one with an important injury and definitely out for more weeks to come. Micki is training now with the team. Luke is ill but hopefully he will train with the team too \[on Friday\]. We are fine in terms of our condition.*

Mourinho also revealed that Timothy Fosu-Mensah was taken off with a knock during United’s Europa League victory over Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk on Thursday night, although it is not known whether the Dutchman’s knock is minor or a much more serious matter.

Taking Fosu-Mensah off for Ashley Young also deprived winger Memphis Depay of some much-needed first-team action, according to Mourinho:

> *I had in my mind to give Memphis 20-25 minutes \[on Thursday night\], but I couldn’t with the way I had to make the changes and the problem with Tim Fosu-Mensah meant I had to play a right-back \[Ashley Young\]. But we need the squad, that’s for sure.*
