# United’s last five New Year’s Eve fixtures

Manchester United are getting ready for their first New Year’s Eve fixture in five years, where they will face Middlesbrough.

The Reds hosted struggling Sunderland on Boxing Day, handily winning the match 3-1. The match will be remembered for Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s brilliant goal in the second half, even if the Armenian was marginally offside.

Jose Mourinho’s side are enjoying a splendid run of form at the moment, being only one of two teams in the Premier League to have won their last four games. Along with Sunderland, they have beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and West Brom during this run.

Opponents Middlesbrough find themselves in the bottom half of the table, although they aren’t having to worry about the relegation places yet. Their last five games have seen Aitor Karanka’s side lose three times, with the two wins coming against 19th place Swansea and Hull City in 20th.

Ahead of tomorrow’s fixture, we ake a look back at the previous five fixtures that United have played on December 31:
