# Player Ratings: Manchester United 4-0 Reading

Manchester United made an eighth straight victory in all competitions with a comfortable win against Championship side Reading in the third round of the FA Cup.

The holders welcomed ex-United man Jaap Stam’s side to commence their defence of the trophy and it didn’t take long for United to break the deadlock, with Wayne Rooney levelling Sir Bobby Charlton as the Reds’ all-time leading scorer in the seventh minute with an improvised finish with his knee.

Anthony Martial made it two eight minutes later, gliding through the Reading defence with ease and slotting past Ali Al-Habsi in the Royals goal. United had several more chances in the first half, but were unable to add to their tally in the first period.

It took United until the last fifteen minutes to put the cherry on top of a fine performance, with Marcus Rashford scoring twice in four minutes – the second a comical strike, with the hapless Al-Habsi fluffling his touch in front of his own goal, leaving the 19-year-old to smash home into an empty net.

The holders now go into the fourth round draw on Monday, with José Mourinho’s side continuing to carry momentum ahead of a EFL Cup semi-final against Hull and a crucial clash against Liverpool in the Premier League next week.
