# Player Ratings: Manchester United 3-2 Southampton

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late header ensured that Manchester United beat Southampton in a pulsating EFL Cup final at Wembley.

It was not the best of performances from José Mourinho’s men at Wembley and they should have been a goal down early on after a Manolo Gabbiadini goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

United took the lead shortly after, Ibrahimovic curling home a free-kick from distance. And seven minutes before half-time, it was somehow two. The Reds’ best move of the match saw the ball fall to Jesse Lingard, who rolled the ball past Fraser Forster into the corner of the net.

Gabbiadini pulled one back for Claude Puel’s Saints just before the break, before the Italian striker levelled things up after the restart with a wonderful swivel and shot into the corner, giving David de Gea no chance.

However, just as the match seemed to be creeping towards extra-time, Ibrahimovic came up with the vital contribution, heading home after some neat build-up play and a cross from Ander Herrera, giving Mourinho his first trophy as Manchester United manager.

Here are the player ratings after a breathtaking 90 minutes at the home of English football:
