# Man United agree to sign Lindelof

Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is in the final stages of signing for Manchester United, [the club](https://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2017/Jun/manchester-united-agrees-transfer-with-benfica-for-sweden-defender-victor-lindelof.aspx?utm_campaign=ManUtd&utm_medium=post&utm_source=twitter) has officially confirmed.

The 22-year-old centre back will become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer, and will look to help strengthen the defense at United. The move is subject to a medical, international clearance and personal terms.

The Swedish star joined Benfica in December 2011 from Swedish side Vasteras SK, and has become a regular part of the team since the 2015/16 season. Last season he made 32 appearances for Benfica in their successful campaign to win the Primeira Liga.

United are also [looking](https://readmanutd.com/2017/06/10/real-madrid-set-demand-60-million-morata/) to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, after not renewing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract for a second season. The Spanish striker however is likely to cost the Red Devils £60 million.

The team are looking to improve next season after finishing sixth in the league. They will compete in the Champions League season after beating Ajax in the Europa League final.

Lindelof is set to slot in at the back next to Eric Bailly as Mourinho looks to solidify his side ahead of a mammoth 2017/18 campaign.
