Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has played down rumours linking him with a move to Premier League club Manchester United as the Welshman says he is “happy” in Madrid, according to a report on the Daily Star.
The attacker has been linked with a move back to the Premier League ever since he left Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid but the player has settled in pretty well at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 28-year-old has been plagued with injuries recently which have kept him out of action for lengthy spells but he did make an appearance from the bench in the UEFA Champions League final in his home country.
The winger had lost his place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI which led to speculation that he would pursue a move this summer.
But Bale said:
“I am a British player and I am always linked with a return home. It happened with Beckham, with other Englishmen who came to Spain. Nothing new.
“I am happy playing in Madrid, logically interest is interest, but if there has been nothing concrete, no offer, there is nothing to discuss.
“I signed a long contract in Madrid and I am happy in this club.”
Bale’s current contract at the Spanish La Liga Champions is until 2022 after he signed an extension last October and his comments will mean Manchester United will have to pursue other targets.
Bale managed to get his name on the scoresheet seven times in the Spanish top flight last season in 17 starts.
But his injuries meant that he had a stop start season and he is looking to get back to full fitness and keep himself that way for the next season.
“Everything has been complicated due to my injury, but for nothing else.
“I am sure this is going to be a great season. My plan is to score goals here.”
