Chelsea winger Willian has confirmed that Manchester United held talks with his agent over a potential move to the club.
Willian says that United spoke to his agent but a deal could not be agreed after the talks.
Chelsea were unwilling to let Willian join United and wanted to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
Willian says that he is happy at Chelsea, despite United’s strong interest in his signature.
Speaking to Goal, Willian said this:
There were a few conversations with my agent. I worked with Mourinho and I became his friend as well.
He likes me a lot and I like him a lot as a coach and as a person. He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.
Manchester came to me, they talked with my agent, but nothing happened, because Chelsea would not negotiate me in any way and I’m very happy at Chelsea.
Mourinho is said to be a big admirer of Willian, having managed him at Chelsea, and was looking to bring him to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have already signed one player from Chelsea this summer. Nemanja Matic completed the switch from blue to red earlier this month in a £50m deal.
Willian started last weekend in the Community Shield as Chelsea lost to Arsenal on penalties, but his starting place in the Premier League is still in doubt.
