Manchester United reportedly want to sign Samuel Umtiti, but Barcelona are working hard to tie him down to a new and improved deal.
The French defender, who has been in exceptional form for the Catalan giants this season, currently has a release clause worth just £53 million if reports are to be believed, and this is something that Barca are aiming to change.
It’s claimed by Spanish newspaper Sport, as covered by the Daily Mail, that Barcelona are working hard to secure Umtiti’s future, and will look to offer him improved terms at the club along with an increased release clause.
Umtiti has been cementing his place in France’s national side in recent times, and is going from strength to strength this season.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on bolstering his defensive reinforcements in January, and Umtiti had been lined up as a potential option.
However, with Barca making efforts to retain his services, it looks as though United’s efforts will be of no avail.
