De Gea told agent to reject Madrid

David de Gea instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to reject Real Madrid’s advances as he is intent on remaining with Manchester United, according to reports, as claimed by Metro.

Over the last few years, it has been reported around every transfer window that Real Madrid have prioritised signing the 27-year old goalkeeper. Save for a faulty fax machine scuppering the move in the summer of 2015, nothing more has happened that would suggest a departure was on the cards for De Gea.

Last July, Mourinho revealed that he had offered De Gea the chance to join Madrid, but the club failed to make an offer for the player. El Confidencial, a Spanish source, claim that when Madrid’s president Florentino Perez last made an approach for the former Atlético Madrid youth product, the United goalkeeper rejected the opportunity.

According to the report, De Gea told Mendes;

Real Madrid? I’m the goalkeeper of Manchester United and Spain. What more could I ask for?

The same source also claims that De Gea is very happy with the Manchester club, and with living in Manchester, where he finds it easier to live without being hassled in the city, something he believes would be more difficult in Madrid.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos are close to agreeing a deal with Athletic Bibao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 23-year old goalkeeper is out of contract with the Basque Country side in the summer, and Madrid are keen to tie the deal up before the end of the season, with the defending La Liga champions willing to pay the players £17.5million buyout clause.
