It has been another frustrating season for 22-year-old Luke Shaw at Manchester United.
He has played just two times for the club as Ashley Young has been preferred. Shaw is well down the pecking order at left-back, with Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian both seemingly above the former Southampton man.
United boss Jose Mourinho looks set to offer Shaw his first start of the season tomorrow night when the Champions League group stages conclude at Old Trafford.
Speaking before his sides match with CSKA Moscow tomorrow, as quoted by the Independent, Mourinho admitted he has been impressed with Shaw.
“I have to think. I am going to make a few, not too many changes. We didn’t qualify yet, we didn’t finish first in the group yet, there are others involved in the qualification and I need to keep a certain balance in the team.
When you speak about Luke you are right, he is working to have an opportunity and sooner or later the opportunity will arrive, because he deserves that opportunity.
Mourinho then went on to talk about where he sees Shaw fitting in tomorrow night. He added:
He is selected for tomorrow, yes for sure. Whether he starts or is on the bench, I cannot answer.
United have all but qualified for the knock-out stages and just need to avoid a heavy defeat to secure their passage, which is why Shaw may get his chance at last.
