Manchester United are interested in signing Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, according to the Guardian.
The Red Devils have long been linked with Isco, as the report alludes to, but it seems both Kroos and Varane have been identified as potential targets by Jose Mourinho.
It seems Mourinho is not totally convinced by his midfield options at United, with Paul Pogba now struggling for form. However, this is issue is likely to be visited in the summer, and it appears as though Kroos could be lined up to partner Pogba in the middle.
United’s lack of quality in depth with regards to the central defensive areas has also been highlighted. This was made all the more pressing by Phil Jones and Chris Smalling’s struggles in the team’s recent defeat to Newcastle.
Varane is held in high esteem at Real, much the same as Kroos, but United are evidently looking towards the upper echelons of football as they identify potential targets for the summer.
The report claims that Mourinho feels there is only so long he can keep David de Gea from the grasp of Real Madrid, however, it’s likely that the Red Devils boss will look to keep hold of the Spaniard for as long as he possibly can.
